Skillfull Meditation Project

Weekend Meditation Retreat

Dates: May 2nd to 4th, 2008

Teachers: Nelly Kaufer and Linda Modaro

Location: River's Edge Manor

This retreat will be held at River's Edge Manor, on the Santiam River in Lebanon, Oregon, one and a half hours south of Portland. For more information on the retreat center: www.riversedgemanor.com

Description:

This retreat offers a new approach to increase one's awareness of meditative experience. People new to meditation will be given simple instructions, while experienced meditators can choose to meditate in the ways they are accustomed to. This retreat is not so much focused on what people decide to do in meditation, but on what they experience in meditation. Writing and talking about one's meditation sittings is part of the retreat experience and there will be several group interviews, as well as the option for individual interviews. Throughout the course of the weekend Nelly and Linda will give talks on the meditative process, as well as discuss Buddhist philosophy and psychology in light of people's meditation experiences and interests.

  • Rooms are shared.
  • This will be a silent meditation retreat with scheduled time for talks and discussion.
  • The food will be prepared by our own cook, and we will need volunteers to help with meal prep and clean up.

Fee for Room and Board: $130

Dana

Since the time of the Buddha, the teachings have been given freely because they are considered priceless. Dana is a Pali word meaning giving and generosity. It expresses the spirit of supporting those who freely share their time and understanding to teach the Dharma. Retreatants can offer dana to the teachers in appreciation and gratitude for the teachings. The cost of the retreat covers the food and lodging. Dana is the only financial compensation that the teachers receive for the teachings.
